“Getting to Mars will be risky, dangerous, uncomfortable… but it’ll be the greatest adventure ever in human history.” Elon Musk
First aired: November 14, 2016
Series directed by: Everardo Gout
It’s the year 2033 and six astronauts are preparing for their epic journey to colonize Mars. Mars is a six part docudrama mini-series that combines the imaginary trip to Mars with real documentary footage from leading experts. Everyone knows the mission is going to be tough but everyone is committed to making it happen. The crew learns that Mars is an unforgiving place and their mission will be much more difficult than the things they learned in training. Segments include interviews with visionaries Elon Musk, Andy Weir, Robert Zubrin, and Neil deGrasse Tyson.
From the documentary experts at National Geographic, the episodes are top-notch quality. Although the editing seems to switch abruptly between the drama and documentary portions, the visuals are stunning and the story of the journey to Mars is captivating.
