There’s a Star Wars movie on Netflix. It’s not A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi, but it’s the next best thing. It’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Rogue One sits in an interesting place. It’s a stand alone film with its own story and its own characters, but it’s also a prequel that depends a whole lot on the film that follows it chronologically, A New Hope. You don’t have to know how the Galactic Senate works, or how many parsecs it took the Millennium Falcon to make the Kessel Run. You just need to know some basics, like who Darth Vader is, what kind of threat The Empire poses, and that the Death Star has one strangely obvious weakness.

Jyn Erso is the latest reluctant hero in the Star Wars galaxy. She joins a-bunch-of-guys-on-a-mission in an attempt to steal secret plans that will help the Rebels defend themselves against the Galactic Empire’s deadliest weapon.

The good stuff:

Alan Tudyk is great (like always) as the re-programmed Imperial droid K-2SO.
Darth Vader is in it.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story nails the 1977 “used universe” look.
It’s on Netflix so there’s never been a better time to have a first look or revisit for some Star Wars goodness.
