On January 6, 2021 insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol Building with the ultimate goal of disrupting a democratic election. Some broke windows, some beat police officers with American flags on poles, some called for the execution of the Vice President. Nearly all were branded head to toe with Donald Trump merchandise.

Four Hours at the Capitol successfully presents a record of that day thanks to the trespasser’s willingness to document their own crimes. The events in DC can be traced, minute by minute, through video footage and social media posts—complete with timestamps and geolocation data.

For those of us who watched the insurrection unfold in real time just a little while ago, there will be no surprises in the story. The who (Trump supporters), what (attacked), where (the United States Capitol Building), when (on January 6, 2021), and why (because the President asked them to) were well established from the outset. The new insights come from interviews with the people who were there.

From officers who spent the day in riot gear to die-hard Trump fans who are just beginning to realize that their hero might not have their backs, the interviews in Four Hours at the Capitol put faces and voices to the brave, the overwhelmed, and the misguided.
